It's Wednesday. I know it's super late but it's still Wednesday! Today's Wake Up Wednesday's post is going to be about society.
Society in my opinion is one of the most confused things ever. This is simply because society loves to contradict itself a lot.
One day society will tell you to embrace your insecurities but then the next day you will see a picture like this:
This picture has caused so much controversy across the net simply because it begs the question of "Who are you to tell me what a beach body looks like?". Images like this make many women feel inferior and insecure about their appearance.
There was a response to this picture from the Daily Mirror by "Us vs Th3m" that I loved. Here's their instructions on how to get the perfect beach body:
1) Take your body to the beach
2) Stay there!
As a young woman growing up in today's society I find it hard to embrace my flaws and love myself for who I am because I am constantly being shown an idea of perfection that looks nothing like me. I know I shouldn't let this get to me but at times, it does. How am I supposed to be comfortable with who I am, if I look nothing like the girls on the TV? Surely, I'm not the only one that feels like this.
Luckily enough for me, I've grown up in an area which is full of diversity. I have been surrounded by people of all different races and sizes. I have met people that are a lot bigger than I am that love life a lot more than those that are a similar size to those on the TV. I have also met people of different ethnicities that feel more British than those born here.
What I'm trying to say is that, you should never allow society to determine how you feel about yourself or anyone. He's black, so what? She's Mexican, so what? He's Muslim, so what? And they're "fat", so what? As cliche as this may be, never judge a book by its cover. A person may have more to offer you but you're too busy letting societies stereotypes and ideologies stop you from getting to know them.
Also, don't let society make you feel inferior as long as you are happy with the way you look, the things you wear and the people you hang with; why should you let anyone tell you how to live?
As Shameless Maya would say:
See you soon,
Tee xoxo
